Built world's first autonomous L3 charging station with Stable Auto.
Hardware development challenges included:
- Integrating F/T controlled robot arm to work with unmodified DC L3 fast charger cable and plug, across multiple vehicle's charge port and cover mechanisms.
- Achieving the necessary mechanical compliance for plugging in, to allow for inaccuracies in CV & calibration while managing dynamic elastic behaviors of the heavy L3 cable (including creep over time). Additional constraints included limited 10kg payload of the robot specification, and care not to saturate the F/T sensors.
- Safety, HMI, and remote operation infrastructure for novice operators.
